Career and Service

Emmelene Gura, known affectionately as "Granny," was born on February 7, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois. She passed away peacefully at her home in Alexandria, Virginia, on June 30, 2008.

She was a retired auditor from the Defense Contract Audit Agency and a longtime, dedicated volunteer at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Emmelene was known by many for her great love of animals, endearing herself to her neighborhood's pets and their owners.

Family

Emmelene is survived by her sister, Sally Gura of Dallas, Texas; her son, Richard Ernst of Melbourne, Florida; and her daughter, Kimberly Ernst of Washington, DC. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Lindsay, Lidia, and Emilio, whom she loved dearly.

Services were held on July 5, 2008. In her memory, donations may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, 1023 15th Street NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20005.
