Requiem Mass was offered Wednesday in Holy Trinity Church, Struthers, for John M. Gura, 77, of 18 W. Washington St., who died Saturday in Montreal, Canada while attending the First Catholic Slovak Catholic Union convention as a delegate of Struthers Branch 259.

He died of a heart attack while on his way to assist at Mass.

He leaves his wife, Anna Marie, whom he married Feb. 3, 1908, and daughters, Julia, Mrs. Regina Graygo and Mrs. Ann Maria Fabilli, all of Struthers; Mrs. Helen Johnson, Lowellville; Mrs. Felicitas Luke, Boardman; Mrs. Kathleen Montgomery, Canton, and Sisters Ignatius Marie and Josephine Monica, of the Daughters of St. Paul, Boston; sons, John, Lowellville; Emil, New York; Peter, Campbell; Lawrence, Youngstown; Norman, Canton, and James, Fairfax, Va.; 29 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gura was born Dec. 28, 1886, in Czechoslovakia and came to the U.S. in 1905. He moved from Lowellville to Struthers in 1907.

Mr. Gura, who was one of the founding parishioners of Holy Trinity, donated the first chalice to the parish. He was past president of the Slovak Union and headed the junior lodge and was auditor of the local branch at his death. He was a charter member of Struthers Knights of Columbus Council and also helped form the Struthers Assembly of the K of C Fourth Degree, of which he was faithful captain. He was a fourth degree member for 34 years.

He had been a member of the Struthers Board of Health for 12 years.

He retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube in 1959 after 40 years in the electrical maintenance department. Burial was in St. John, Campbell.
